Garfield County is growing and changing. We each experience that ever day. This change holds a danger… the loss of the unique character that makes our communities special. The where we came from. The who we came from. Our way of life. 1A is a tool to hold onto that character, save our special places and protect our way of life.
Save Our Special Places
Keep our museum doors open
Repair and improve our facilities
Hire staff to properly curate our historic assets
Provide matching funds for projects that attract state and federal grant $$$
Protect Our Way of Life
Help our communities hold onto their unique character
For every $1 million dollars that Colorado communities invest in historic preservation, they get a $1.03 million-dollar return and create 14 new jobs. Much of that return comes from the heritage tourist who spends $7.2 billion in Colorado each year. That number accounts for more than half of all Colorado tourism spending, and it’s growing. Heritage tourists stop and spend money in the places they visit. They take in our historic and cultural experiences, eat in our restaurants, shop in our stores, and sleep in our lodging. The dollars they spend do double duty for the citizens of Garfield County. They flow into our local businesses and generate local sales tax.
1A is good business. 1A funds will:
Help local businesses tap into Colorado’s booming heritage tourism industry
Generate more local sales tax $ (from heritage tourism) and put it to work for the citizens of Garfield County
Provide matching funds for projects that will draw more state and federal grant $ into our local communities
Create new jobs
